THE WORK OF STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS UNCOVERS NUMEROUS SURPRISES

The recent scaling of the ceilings on all levels of the monastery revealed the state of the structure of the floors.

The structural engineers’ discoveries are impressive: old wooden beams, lintels above the windows, modifications that were made over the years in order to integrate electrical and mechanical works, signs of where chimneys, long-demolished, once stood, as well as pieces of steel that secure outer masonry walls to the framework for floors inside.
